On Friday the year 10’s were all brought to the school gym
to hear a presentation by attitude which is a program that goes around from
school to school about things that affect us all. The presentation was about technology.
The presenter Jordan talked about things such as facebook, phones, bullying,
sexting, our digital footprints etc. Everything affects people differently and
people deal with it in different ways. Jordan used many examples such as the nek
minute guy (also known as Levi Hawken)
or the starwars kid. He told us that the “starwars kid” had over 26 million
views and because of it he got bullied at every school he changed to and
eventually had to be home schooled because of how he was effected by it. The presentation
has taught me to take more caution will what I am doing whether its online, towards
people etc.

book
The book that I have been reading is The Fallen by Thomas E. Sniegoski. It was two series in the book called the fallen and Leviathan.
On Aarons 18 birthday he begins to hear strange voices and is convinced he is going insane. But having moved from foster home to foster home, he doesn't know who he can trust anymore. He starts to have a crush on a girl at his new school however hes afraid she will think hes crazy as well.
Then a mysterious man begins to follow Aaron. He knows about Aarons troubled past and his new powers. And he has a message for Aaron, as the son of a mortal and an angel, Aaron has been chosen to redeem the fallen.
Aaron tries to dismiss the news and resists his supernatural abilities. But he must accept his newfound heritage. As the dark powers are gaining strength and are destroying him.

poem
Ears pricked, bright green eyes widened.
Tender grass blades crunching under foot as she stalks her pray.
Skulking in the darkness of the garden, waiting for the right moment to pounce.
A sudden noise breaks her focus and the bird is gone.
Sulkily she retreats to the four walls of comfort, looking for cuddles from someone.
her rough, sand papered tongue licking her bright, shiny coat.

should synchronized swimming be in the olympics?
I think synchronized swimming shouldn’t be a part of the Olympics
because all it is, is dancing under water and it’s not a very good spectator
sport. All you see is heads and legs popping out of the water ,as you can’t see
the full sport. It’s basically rhythmic gymnastics under the water which isn’t really
necessary.
Synchronized swimming involves swimming, dance and
gymnastics. To be able to do this sport you need to have water skills, amazing
strength, good timing, endurance, flexibility and you must be able to hold your
breath for awhile while you are under the water upside down. It is judged by
how difficult the routine is, their timing and they get deduced if the routine
is out of order. In the 20th
century synchronized swimming use to be known as water ballet.
So, to conclude I
think synchronized swimming should not be included in the Olympics as it hasn’t
got much to do with sports, it’s more of a dance performance.

greatest moment in olympic history
The greatest moment in Olympic history was in 1992 in Barcelona when a 19 year old boy had promised his mother that he would win gold in boxing, 2 years before the games were to start. She died of cancer not long after but he kept his promise. He became boxing's golden boy, winning 10 world titles before retiring and starting a new career as a promoter.

As the sun’s rays peeped through the half drawn curtains the
elderly man awoke with an energetic start. It was a glorious morning as he
stumbled out of bed and made his way to the kitchen to prepare himself a cup of
tea and a bowl of hearty porridge. As his porridge simmered on the stove he
decided it would be a beautiful day to take a stroll through the nearby park.
After consuming his breakfast and cup of tea he threw on his comfortable
clothes and walking shoes, preparing himself for his busy morning. As he ambled
down the street with the aid of his walking stick he was deep in thought about
the upcoming weekend as his daughter and grandchildren were coming to stay. He had
been very lonely living on his own since his beloved wife pasted away. It had
been some time since he had last seen this family and he was very excited about
their impending arrival.
Suddenly out of nowhere a large ferocious dog came flying at
the elderly man, knocking him to the ground. Its razor sharp teeth piercing
through his leg, ripping a large chunk of flesh, blood spurted out of the
horrific gash as the elderly man screamed in agonizing pain. He could feel the
dogs warm breath on his face as it attempted to clamp it fangs around his
fragile neck. With his last ounce of energy he struck the dog as hard as he
could with his trusty walking stick. The vicious dog released the elderly man
and run of, as two nearby shopkeepers came to assist the victim after hearing
the commotion outside.

BNZ story
The loud thud and screech of brakes awoke me from my deep
sleep, as the planes wheels hit the runway, with vigorous force. The adrenalin
rushed through me as the plane travelled down the runway coming to an abrupt holt. We had finally made it to
Christchurch after a very early morning start on a beautiful spring day. My
strenuous training had finally paid off as I was here to compete in the under
fifteen year old female road race which was being held at Darfield the next day.
My support group consisting of my mother and
two sisters Jade and Jasmine and also my dearest nana had all
accompanied me to encourage me
throughout the approaching event.
We picked up our rental car which mum had already organised
prior to our arrival and after loading all our luggage into the gleaming four
wheel drive we made our way through the hectic streets to our motel which we
were staying at on the outskirts of the C.B.D. On our way to our motel we
stopped and purchased some food to eat
during our stay. My eyes drank in the beautiful architecture that Christchurch
had to offer. I was mesmerised by the historical buildings and the sparkling
river AVON that cascaded through the suburbs of Christchurch. Upon arriving at
our motel we unpacked our luggage and settled in for an early and peaceful night as I needed all my strength for my impending
race the next morning.
Boom!!! OMG WHAT WAS THAT! My heart was in my throat as I
leapt out of bed like a frightened Gazelle, oblivious to what was happening. I
met my mum in the lounge, her terrified eyes looking around for the rest of the
family. The thundering and rumbling continued around us and my mum exclaimed “
I think a plane has crashed into our motel, we had better get out of here quickly
”. We all raced to the nearest exit, the front ranch sliders, and discovered a
large amount of debri blocking our escape. The ear piercing screams from
traumatised people echoed through the early morning air and clouds of dust
filled my nostrils and irritated my eyes as we clambered up the bricks that had
fallen in a large heap in front of our motel. We went to the centre court yard
of the motel where other quests had already gathered. “Its an earthquake” cried
one of the other guests. We stood there in total shock glued to the spot as the
angry earth moaned and groaned beneath us. My bleeding feet started to hurt and I began to shiver as I was
standing there in only my pyjamas. Everything had happened so suddenly ,I was
still trying to get my head around what had just happened. I glanced at my
watch an discovered it was just after 4.35 am. The main thing was my family were all safe although my nana was
complaining of feeling sick and chest pains. We stood there for what seemed
like hours until the early morning dawn broke. As the sun emerged we saw the
devastation the earthquake had left in its path. We could hear sirens wailing
in the distance as blackened smoke
wafted into the air. A distressed lady from the neighbouring house appeared in
our courtyard looking for her chimney that had fallen from the top of her house. It had
landed in front of our room and it was then that I realised that we were so
lucky to be alive and only mildly injured.
“We have to get out of here” my mum shrieked. We climbed through
the rubble back into our motel unit and gathered all our possessions and made
our way to our unharmed vehicle. Everything seemed surreal as we drove through
the broken and twisted streets and we saw many people outside observing the
horrific damage to their properties. Liquefaction submerged many properties and also the
streets ,making it extremely difficult for my mother drive us safely away from
the shaken up city. We travelled in
silence as we headed south having no plans on where we were going. Travel was
very slow as many other petrified citizens were fleeing the area. After a few
hours we arrived in Ashburton hungry and
thirsty not knowing what to do. We found a bakery and had to cue for over an
hour to be served as many other famished people were also waiting to be served.
My nana did not want anything to eat as she was still feeling ill and
complaining of chest pain. While eating our food in the car we were listening
to the news bulletins on the radio about the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that had
devastated Christchurch. Thankfully there were no reported deaths or not to many
serious injuries. After we started to
get our heads around what had happened
we decided to head back to Christchurch to see if our motel was still habitable, as we needed somewhere to stay
the night as the airport was closed and we wouldn’t be able to fly out until
the following morning.
As mum parked the vehicle outside our motel unit I could
feel my body tense up with fright as I remembered the horrendous night before. We
went to the motel office to ask if the
room was still safe to stay in, which it was however I didn’t want to stay in
this city again as i could feel many aftershocks convulsing from the earth and
I did not want a repeat from the night before. We slept in our clothes prepared
for whatever may be in store for us that
upcoming night .I didn’t sleep a wink as might heart raced with anxiety and I
was also worried about my nana.
We were all up at the crack of dawn, anxious to get out of
this churned up city, back to stable land. Our bags loaded into our car, we
battled our way through the crazy streets to the airport. Thankfully the
airport had reopened and our flight was leaving on time as every aftershock we
feared for our lives, frightened we would have to go through the repercussions
of the morning before. The sound of the engines
starting up brought me a sense relief , I knew my family was finally out of
danger. After arriving to Auckland my nana was still un well so we took her to
the nearest doctors where we discovered she had suffered a heart attack from
the fright she had experienced from the earthquake. She was rushed to hospital
in a ambulance were she stayed in hospital for over a week were she recovered from
her ordeal. I felt so sorry for the people of Christchurch knowing many people’s
homes and businesses were destroyed and I hope to never have to go through an
experience like that again.
This is based on a true story

reflection
This term has been really fun. I have made new friends and caught up with old ones. I have a lot more confidence this year than last year. Meeting new people in my class was great, meeting new teachers that I have never had before.
It has been a bit difficult remembering my classes but after a few weeks i managed to remember my timetable. I really like all of my teachers this year.
This year i feel a lot more connected to my whanau group and tutor. I have made new friends with many year 9's and cant wait to make more. I have also become more involved in my tutor group in activities. I am excited to find out what I will face next term and experience.

my book review
I chose to read a book called Darke Academy secret lives written by Gabriella Poole. I chose to read this book because my twin sister read it and loved it so she recommended that i read it too.
This book is about a school that moves to a new city every term. The students in it are beautiful, rich and sophisticated. Every year there is a scholarship girl and this year it is Cassie Bell. However as she learns more about the school history she comes to understand that knowing a little knowledge can be deadly, but knowing too much can be deadly.
There is a special group called the chosen few which is a group of students who keep outsiders away and like to keep to them self's. Everyone is dying to join the chosen few but they don't know what the group is really about and what they have to go through to join it. All of the girls in the chosen few hate Cassie only because the most popular girl in it called Erika hates her because shes jealous that all the boys in the chosen few start to fancy Cassie, one boy in particular called Richard.
She tries to find out the history about the Academy as the last scholarship girl died in mysterious circumstances. After awhile she comes to understand that there is a dark stranger prowling the corridors at night. When she starts to notice that some people are missing from classes that are room mates with people from the chosen few she starts investigating. But what she does find is nothing that she expected and she nearly ends up getting killed.
Later when she finds who the nightly corridor prowler shes shocked to find that he is the brother of the scholarship girl who died and shes shocked even more to find he is in the chosen few. He explains why he roams the corridors at night, to find out what happened to his sister.
When she starts to date Richard things start to get serious between them to and he starts telling her things about the chosen few. She starts to want to join the chosen few only to find out more about them. When she is on a date with Richard he tricks here into becoming on of the chosen few. She wishes she never went with him because of what she has to go through. To be in the chosen few she has to get her soul drained out of her and replaced by the devils.

creative writing
Once upon a time there were two aliens, one female and one
male who came from planet Silon. They came to planet earth to start a new
family because their own planet was becoming over populated and diseases were
becoming a big risk for their survival. Their type of specie does not eat or
drink, so instead they get their energy from the rays of the sun and along with
that they get special powers.
They take off from planet Silon in their spaceship and land
on planet earth at 11:55pm. After landing in the first garden and explored it
for awhile they found nothing that interested them so they set off to go explore
a new garden. After landing in a new garden they found a pool. They took so
much interest in it as they had never seen water before, so the male alien
decides to inspect the pool as he finds it very fascinating. However, as he
leaned in too much he slipped and hit his head and fell in the pool unconscious.
As the female alien dives in to save him, she finds out she can’t swim. Due to cold
water she goes into shock and gets hyperthermia. After being in the cold pool
for a couple of hours they die due to under cooling of their core temperature.
As the sun rises on a beautiful day at 5 am the sun beams shine
through the clouds and trees. The rays of light then hit the pool that the
aliens are in and by doing so re-generate their life support system and give
them their special powers that the aliens use to fly out of the pool to return
to their spaceship.
Once they discover that planet earth is unsafe for them to
start a family on they set off in their spaceship to a new planet called Zerga
which contains no water at all, unlike planet earth which contains about 65% of
water. They then start a family like they have always wanted and live happily
ever after without any danger of water what so ever.

my holidays
These holidays for me were really fun. During Christmas was great, catching up with my family and spending time with them. I spent most of the holidays at my nana's and poppa's farm, went to the beach and went fishing a lot. I hung out with friends as well especially alexis and we frequented the malls, went to the movies to see the journey 2 and siones 2. However most of the holidays were raining so i couldn't do very much.
My family and I went camping for a few days but didn't stay long as the weather started to pack up. My twin sister and I often had competitions on who could start the best fire with only a few pieces of wood and a lighter. We went out to find some pipi's and some shellfish.I practiced my art of the views on the new deck my step dad built.
